Afghanistan Establishes First National Park

Good news from Afghanistan this week: the country declared its first internationally recognized national park today, called Band-e-Amir, which includes a striking series of six deep blue lakes in one of the country’s best-known natural areas.

This is a nice change over blowing up ancient Buddha Statues.

The establishment of the national park provides the international recognition essential for developing Band-e-Amir as an international tourist destination,

Afghanistan was one of the first spots that popped into my mind for a honeymoon.

You’re telling me I can’t smoke all those hemp shirts I bought?

Almost anyone who has known me for very long is aware that I'm a big Ron Paul fan.  So I'm very pleased I can find a reason to post something concerning him.  I know hemp has been big outside of the stoner community for some time with lots of clothing makers using hemp particularly in their "Green" lines.

Hemp Bill Supported by Barney Frank, Ron Paul

The Industrial Hemp Farming Act was introduced Friday by Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas). The bill would make it legal for U.S. farmers to raise "non-psychoactive industrial hemp," a product which is used in soap, rope, clothing and even food.

HR 1866: Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009

To amend the Controlled Substances Act to exclude industrial hemp from the definition of marijuana, and for other purposes.

We shall see if it makes it out of committee.

So you don’t think 127ft is high enough?

Then lets do 186!!

There's no pictures or videos yet but on the 21st Tribe posted a one sentence saying  Tyler Bradt successfully dropped 186ft at Palouse Falls (+46° 39' 49.00", -118° 13' 25.00").  Looks like Rush Sturges did get it on video so hopefully that won't take to long to surface.

I cant ride a bike.

Hell after watching this i think i am going to have to put training wheels back on all my bikes.   This is just sick.  Some of the best trials riding i have ever seen.  I especially like the backward wheelie to forward wheelie combo at 3:28.

Simply just sick.

The Running Shoe Debate: How Barefoot Runners are Shaping the Shoe Industry

A group of running rebels are shedding their shoes and reporting years of injury-free miles. Some ultramarathoners, biomechanics experts and doctors think that's probably a good thing. Others go so far as to say running shoes are in fact causing injuries. Meanwhile, running shoe companies continue to precisely measure runners, and pound and flex shoes in their high-tech labs. Could shoes—and shoe companies—be covering hundreds of thousands of perfectly able bare feet? If shoes are doing damage, just what are the companies measuring?

The painful truth about trainers: Are running shoes a waste of money?

At Stanford University, California, two sales representatives from Nike were watching the athletics team practise. Part of their job was to gather feedback from the company's sponsored runners about which shoes they preferred.

Unfortunately, it was proving difficult that day as the runners all seemed to prefer... nothing.

'Didn't we send you enough shoes?' they asked head coach Vin Lananna. They had, he was just refusing to use them.

'I can't prove this,' the well-respected coach told them.

'But I believe that when my runners train barefoot they run faster and suffer fewer injuries.'

Nike sponsored the Stanford team as they were the best of the very best. Needless to say, the reps were a little disturbed to hear that Lananna felt the best shoes they had to offer them were not as good as no shoes at all.

In a paper for the British Journal Of Sports Medicine last year, Dr Craig Richards, a researcher at the University of Newcastle in Australia, revealed there are no evidence-based studies that demonstrate running shoes make you less prone to injury. Not one.

Notice the difference in ground strike between Arnulfo Quimare running in sandals compared to Scott Jurek running in shoes.

Ugh I should go run today. My Vibram FiveFingers are all dirty.  I've been putting this off long enough.
