Water water everywhere…

Plastic bottles are bad for the earth.  There's not much wiggle room with that one.  They simply don't go anywhere in a reasonable amount of time.  Biota Spring Water is looking to combat that though.  With their bottle (first appearing in 2003), Biota has succesfully created a compostable water bottle.  In the simplest way of putting it, the bottle is made of corn.  Pretty cool considering the plastic bottle won't fall apart while on the shelf but once put into a compost pile, will be gone in about three months.  Pretty impressive considering a regular bottle takes roughly 450 years.  Not too shabby.

  1. actually, most consumer disposable plastics nowadays are made from corn starch. in fact, wal-mart switched over to PLA plastics back in 03. with rising petrol costs, PLA plastics are actually cheaper than traditional PET plastics.

just, ya know… trying to keep you informed

  2. I’ve got a pen made from corn. Being in Iowa, I should!!
